Getting Ready for High School

8th grade at Hillwood homecomingStudents in 8th grade have many opportunities to be leaders of our school They are offered high school credit classes in integrated math and physical science.

Eighth graders continue to have honors classes in literacy as well. They often lead on the sports teams, student council, and in school wide events on campus. They are given the opportunity to explore high school options and organize their freshman classes. The school counselor works closely with the students to be well prepared for their high school career. A highlight for 8th grade is a walk down the street to Hillwood High to spend a day shadowing a 9th graders.  Regardless of the high school they choose, they get a close up look at the structure of the MNPS academies.

The 8th grade resides in a more private section of the building to simulate the high school setting.  Class changes and privileges start to align more with those of a 9th grader.
