H.G. Hill currently has an enrollment of 430 students in grade 6-8, representing a richly diverse demographic. H.G. Hill is located within the James Lawson cluster (formerly Hillwood). H.G. Hill students follow the pathway to the newest high school in Nashville, James Lawson High School, opened in August of 2023.

H.G. Hill students attend classes in a block schedule system, customized for each grade level. The school day consists of three large academic blocks, related arts and an educational intervention period. Related arts subjects include choir, band, rock band, STEAM, and physical education/health. In addition, H.G. Hill offers honors and high school credit classes, blended learning opportunities and GATE, the district's gifted learning program.

H.G. Hill has a bright and spacious media center that operates as a branch of the Nashville Public Library for students. Students enjoy intramurals, co-curricular activities and athletic teams, which compete in the Western Division of the middle school city league.

H.G. Hill is committed to educating the whole child and is committed to the practices of social emotional learning, ACES trauma informed understanding and restorative practices.
