Eighth Grade

Getting Ready for High School

Students in Eighth Grade have many opportunities to be leaders of our school. They are offered high school credit for Integrated Math. Eighth Graders continue to have honors classes in literacy as well. They often lead on our sports teams, student council and in school wide events on campus. They are given the opportunity to explore high school options and organize their freshman classes. The school counselor works closely with the students to ensure they are well prepared for their upcoming high school career.

A highlight for Eighth Graders is a walk down the street to James Lawson High to spend a day shadowing Ninth Graders. Regardless of the high school they ultimately attend, they get a close-up look at the structure of the MNPS academies.

The Eighth Grade wing resides in a more private section of the building to simulate the high school setting. Class changes and privileges start to align more with those of a Ninth Grader.
